The Nutritionist Intern will be assigned to a strategic innovation project within the Nutrition, Science & Technology (NS&T) team and will be accountable for searching, analyzing, and communicating scientific findings on nutritional ingredients benefiting a specific health outcome to a multi-disciplinary team at the end of the internship. They will also be responsible for summarizing beneficial ingredients from the literature search on score cards with the relevant research and clinical benefits. With some support and guidance, the intern will be able to recommend product concepts including unique blends and formats for a specific health outcome. They will be able to participate in various activities within the NS&T team, such as Ideation and Prototyping workshops. The exposure to multi-disciplinary teams (e.g. Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing & Innovation) throughout the internship will help to enrich the intern’s knowledge about ways of working in an industry setting.

Key Responsibilities:

Literature Review: They will conduct literature review on nutritional ingredients that could benefit a health condition (e.g. fertility or pregnancy) that is relevant for the VMHS category. They will critique available research for level of scientific evidence and compile a list of beneficial ingredients with their respective dosages. The intern will critically synthesize, summarize and present results to the stakeholders in concise and meaningful way for the business at the end of the internship.

  • Scientific Writing: based on findings from literature review, the intern will write a summary report or abstract to communicate the research to a scientific community.
  • Product Conceptualization: from the ingredients identified in the literature review on a health outcome, the intern will further assess them in a holistic way, considering unique blends and formats as well as considering consumer preferences and needs, regulatory status and commercial feasibility to recommend a product concept for a specific benefit area.
  • Ingredient Repository and Score Cards: The intern will help to update the VMHS Ingredient Repository by adding emerging ingredients and suppliers relevant to our business. Through this process, the intern will be able to familiarize with many of the product solutions currently available and their respective science and product claims. In addition, the intern will put together ingredient score cards from the list of candidates identified through the literature search. These ingredient cards can be used by other scientists and R&D community as a visual way to summarize the existing research for a single ingredient.

  • Excellent communicators (both written and verbal) who encourage others and excel in a team environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly, embrace change, and thrive in a fast-paced, environment.
  • Previous experience of independently conducting literature search and critically analyzing research articles. Some scientific writing skills are required.
  • Experience in conducting systematic literature review is preferred but not required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel.

Areas of Study/Majors

Graduate student (PhD, MS) OR BSc or current undergraduate in Nutrition, Biology, Biochemistry, food science.
