JOB SUMMARY:

The Sensory Apprentice supports the Sensory Technician and Panel Leaders with the preparation and execution of sensory test sessions with trained panelists.

This position will be Monday-Thursday from 8am-2pm. There is no relocation assistance or housing provided. This will last 6+ months.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Panel:

  • Set-up sensory tasting room
  • Prepare products and sensory references, label serving dishes according to instructions
  • Provide IT support by launching panel sessions if required

During Panel:

  • Prepare/cook products to be tasted following specific instructions, and serve to panelists according to rotation plan
  • Assist Panel Leader with the creation of sensory ballots and sensory references

Post-Panel

  • Assist with panel room cleanup, store or dispose of products as required
  • Execute discrimination tests with minimal guidance
  • Contribute to exporting and reviewing first panel data, and assist with basic report building

JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Knowledge):

  • Currently studying or recent graduate with focus on Sensory Science, Food Science, Food Technology, Culinary, or related field
  • Basic software knowledge: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Good computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Day time, weekday commitment on a fixed schedule 20-24 h/week
  • Able to work well in a team environment
  • Collaborative attitude. Enjoys working with, learning from, and sharing knowledge with others
