Position Summary:
We are immediately hiring for a team-oriented and ambitious Laboratory Technician Intern, with the desire to participate in hands-on learning in the wine industry during this year’s Harvest Season! The primary responsibilities of this assignment will be performing laboratory analysis on our wine products. The Intern will work closely with the rest of the lab team on sample preparation, creating reagents, fermentation monitoring, and learning how to operate analytical machinery. They will validate compliance to product specifications and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) through routine and advanced chemical analyses on juices, wines, spirits, and other Constellation Brands products. This is an exciting opportunity to explore a career in Laboratory Science, Winemaking, Operations Support, and beyond! The Intern will communicate with and provide timely feedback to production team members and play a critical role in driving process improvement.

This is an hourly temporary/seasonal assignment, generally between August through November. Scheduled hours are determined on an as-needed basis to keep up with grape processing – candidates should be flexible to work for 20 hours and up to 40 hours per week. This may include some weekend hours, and possible opportunities to earn overtime.

The pay range for this opportunity is $20.00 – 22.00/hour. Pay offered will be evaluated based on candidates’ relevant experience and work history.


  • Perform accurate routine and advanced chemical and physical analysis on wines, juices, concentrates, and other company products.
  • Learn and follow all laboratory work instructions and safety procedures, demonstrating competency and compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure it is working properly.
  • Daily fermentation monitoring, including but not limited to: total sugars concentration, ethanol concentration, and CO2 production.
  • Collect samples from tanks and barrels and prepare samples for analysis, prioritizing sample, tests, and report results, as needed.
  • Prepare reagents and standard solutions used in the lab, disposing of chemical waste safely and properly.
  • Prepare, maintain, and distribute required reports and records.
  • Contribute to producing quality products by completing assignments in a safe, efficient and valuable manner.
  • Maintain lab cleanliness and a safe, sanitary working environment.
  • Regular, standardized data collection and input.
  • Assisting with laboratory reports and additional documentation, as appropriate.
  • Advise appropriate team members of any concerns or discrepancies that arise in the lab. Communicate out of specification data with proper analyst or management to initiate corrective action.
  • Participation and assistance with the on-site sensory program.
  • Complete daily lab start-up and shut-down protocols, maintaining a clean, orderly, and efficient laboratory at all times.
  • Cross train with other departments, perform duties and special projects, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Recent college graduate or actively pursuing a degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related field.
  • This is a seasonal full-time position. Successful candidates must have a flexible schedule and be able to work extended hours from August through November.
  • Must be a reliable, punctual team player.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent documentation skills, and the ability to follow precise instructions in an environment that requires speed and accuracy.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematics.
  • Ability to multitask, and shift priorities as needed.
  • Ability to work from August through the end of November.
  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends and overtime hours, as needed.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Must be 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous winery lab experience, with strong safety awareness.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks independently and in a team-based setting.
  • Experience with microbiological plating and sample collection procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate confidently verbally and in writing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs, including Teams and SharePoint.
  • Interested in learning new lab techniques.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand on feet for long periods of time. Working conditions in certain areas of the winery are cold, warm, wet, slippery and noisy. Involves exposure to loud noises, fumes, toxic chemicals, near moving mechanical parts and lift truck traffic. Frequent walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouch, or crawl, going up and down stairs and ladders. Must be able to move up to 55 lbs. Must have a valid driver’s license. Occasional travel with ability to work weekends and overtime. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the assignment.
