Full Job Description

Summary: The purpose of the Intern position is to provide an 8-10 week work experience to individuals who are actively pursuing an undergraduate degree with a focus on supply chain and logistics management or food science. The intern will support the National Category Director with a specific project/projects geared towards improving process efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will help our import procurement team with projects geared towards improving process efficiency and regulatory compliance.

  • May assist in gathering, maintaining and updating information about food products.
  • May assist in scheduling and coordinating material and follow up for trainings.
  • May communicate with internal departments, vendors and brokers via telephone and e-mail to collect appropriate item details for uploading into DPI’s internal database.
  • May analyze and proof vendor, broker and internal department paperwork for entry into database.
  • May respond to vendors, brokers and internal staff regarding questions or issues with submitted paperwork, including troubleshooting and correcting discrepancies or incomplete submissions
  • May help to create and maintain internal and external manuals, processes and procedures.
  • May provide administrative assistance to the National Category Director and other internal staff as needed.
  • May occasionally be asked to assist with project work based on individual demand.
  • Maintain clean personal work environment.
  • Other duties may be assigned to fulfill DPI’s objectives and/or job duties and requirements may be changed as needed to meet current and future business needs.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The employee must be proficient in English and basic math skills. A high school diploma or equivalent is required and must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree with a focus on supply & logistics management or food science. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook and Power Point) is required. Experience in food distribution is preferred.

Work Environment: The work environment is indoors in a professional office environment in Tualatin, OR. The floor surfaces are carpeted in office areas and conference rooms with vinyl floor covering typical in hallways, break rooms and computer rooms.

Work Hours: The work schedule is typically 5 days a week, 6 hours a day, start times may vary. Work hours and shifts are subject to change depending on operating business conditions and needs.

Physical and Mental Demands: Sedentary. Exerting up to 10 of force occasionally (up to one-third of the time), and/or greater than a negligible amount of force frequently (one-third to two-thirds of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Knows and follows proper safety protocols; DPI grooming, hygiene and dress code. Perform mathematic functions and use verbal and writing skills to communicate and accurately verify data and information. Must be able to report to the Tualatin, OR offices on a daily basis.
