Primary Job Function

  • Development, evaluation and validation of methods and processes to support microbiology testing and next generation sequencing applications
  • Coordinate with Quality and R&D groups to support manufacturing site microbiology testing and troubleshooting.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts research in methods/process feasibility and development independently or working closely with project coordinator or R&D manager. Assesses suitability of new technology and procedures for laboratory testing needs for food safety microbiology
  • Directs independent projects toward method development and validation or troubleshooting.
  • Supports critical R&D microbiology testing to identify root cause in collaboration with Quality team members
  • Subject matter expert in cross-functional teams; presents project or testing outcomes; leads and/or participates in team meetings and activities and communicates effectively.

Accountability

  • Strategy: Projects are assigned with defined scope and goals. Assures activities are consistent with project critical path. Detailed direction of activities is not required. Budgets own time to carry out assigned duties.
  • Quality of Work: Responsible for scientific integrity, documentation accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results.
  • Work Performance: Successfully summarizes data and analyzes results; drafts reports and manuscripts; formulates conclusions and reviews progress with supervisor. May participates in routine maintenance, lab safety, GMP implementation as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field Preferred:
  • 4 years’ experience in academic or industry laboratory. MS with equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience with aseptic technique, BSL-2 laboratory safety, molecular biology methods required. DNA sequencing and analysis experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in research or applied microbiology
