Technical Service Lead, Colors
Our client is a leading producer pigments, polymers and liquid components and has annual sales of more than $7.5 billion and over 20,000 employees supporting customers around the world. They have started a food coloring business and seek a scientist who can help them set up the lab and manage a portfolio of customer projects.
Description
The Technical Service Lead, food colorant is entrepreneurial and has the ownership mindset of creating a startup business in a safe environment with the funds and resources from within the company. She/ He will be responsible for developing food and beverage prototypes to showcase our client’s colors and technologies., prioritize and allocate resources in alignment with business strategy. She/he works closely with the other divisions of R&D, analytical and technical services to fully leverage existing capabilities and resources.
Lead food prototype development
Leverage internal and external labs, pilot plants and resources to make food and beverage prototypes to demonstrate our client’s color portfolio and capability.
Lead and makeover existing lab, equipment to build a food application lab.
Create new food application prototypes based on consumer trends for presentations of natural and synthetic food colorants portfolio.
Commercial support
Manage color applications and technical support for projects with food and beverage customers.
Apply knowledge of color ingredients and additives, extraction, formulations and processing techniques to customer projects.
Visit customers with/without sales managers to demonstrate colorants in relevant food prototypes.
Work cross functionally and cross regionally.
Work closely with R&D, marketing and sales team to identify opportunities and translate them into food and beverage prototypes and product development opportunities.
Be the go-to person for technical information on technologies, products for EMEA and Americas region
Collaborate with client’s Healthcare group and New Business Development team on customer initiatives, projects and new product development
Deliver technical training and provide in-depth technical information on products and applications to internal and external customers.
Work with regulatory and quality teams in commercialization of food colorants
Product Development
Review competitors, IP and regulatory landscape as part of the responsibility to identify gaps, needs and constraints for new product development and commercialization.
Monitor technological advances in all relevant fields, explore external partners and work with business manager to incorporate new external technologies and/or products in the portfolio.
Acquire knowledge of customer products and processes and apply this knowledge to the development and commercialization of new colorants.

Position Requirements
5+ years with bachelor’s degree in Food Science/Chemistry/Science Technology equivalent
3+ Master’s degree preferred with color/food industry experience working in color applications and/or product development capacities.
Hands on experience working with standard food science lab instruments to pilot equipment.
Key Interactions: Sales Managers, Customers, R&D team, Marketing Managers, Global counterparts in EMEA, APAC and Americas
Knowledge of food additives/ingredient regulation JECFA, FDA and USDA
Understanding of GMP, HACCP, SQF guidelines and food safety related matters
Good knowledge of sensory methodologies is a plus.
